Goji berries, or wolfberries, are a shrivelled berry in a red to orange colour. They look very much like raisons. These berries are completely packed with nutrients and their taste is very palatable. This is why they have become so popular over recent years and why they are known as one of the super fruits. The goji berry has been used in Mongolia, China and Tibet for thousands of years. They are known to treat a whole range of different ailments because of the amazing nutrients found within the berries.
Nutrition Facts 1 – Antioxidants
Goji berries are full of antioxidants like vitamins C, E and A as well as polyphenols, flavonoids and carotenoids. In fact, you get 500 times more vitamin C from a goji berry than you would from an orange. These are the properties that make it an excellent boost to the immune system as well as great for the health of the eye. Also, it is believed to prevent cancer and Alzheimer’s, lower cholesterol and blood glucose and to reduce free radicals.
Nutrition Facts 2 – Proteins and Amino Acids
Amino acids are the building blocks of our bodies. They regulate our metabolism and build our glands, muscles, organs, tendons, hair and nail. They repair and maintain our bodies. Goji berries contain 19 amino acids, including the eight that we class as essential.

One quarter cup of goji includes B vitamins, eleven essential vitamins and 22 trace minerals. It also has more iron than spinach. In fact, it has 24% of the RDA (recommended daily allowance) or potassium, 100% of copper, iron and riboflavin and 18% of zinc.
These are but a few of the many nutrition facts offered by goji berries, but it is easy to see why it is classed as such a super fruit. However, as always, you must never replace nutritious meals with nothing but goji berries, but rather use them as part of a balanced, healthy diet.
